Hi, I'm Max! 👋🏻

I write, mostly about digital products and experiences, and sometimes about other issues I find write-worthy (I apologize in advance for the occasional political post—if you don’t like those, please just ignore them). Most of my articles and essays are available here on Medium and on my personal website, but I also publish in various journals and magazines.

I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Technische Universität Chemnitz for my work on search interaction optimization and human-centered design at the R&D department of Unister GmbH, Leipzig. Afterwards, I joined bitstars GmbH in Aachen as VP of Data Analytics and CRO to work on their AR/VR platform HoloBuilder. From 2017–18, I did my post-doc at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, where I continued working on AR/VR topics, specifically in the contexts of interaction design and usability evaluation. After having taken care of online experimentation and innovation in C&A's eCommerce department for almost 3 years, I am now Product Design Director at Best Secret GmbH as well as a Freelance Consultant for Product, Design Thinking, & CRO, and Partner at product consulting firm Jagow Speicher.

For my academic work, I received Best Paper awards at ACM CHI and ACM EICS, where I have also regularly served as a reviewer.
